There seems to be problems with the Department of Main-Roads in
Queensland. With this regard Mr. Desmond F O'Neil has written a letter to
the Premier of Queensland:
...To top it all off, they carried out their investigations in the

Queensland premier urges more investment in sunshine state

QUEENSLAND Premier Peter Beattie has urged Australian businesses to
invest in the sunshine state.

Speaking at the Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce (AICC) business
lunch in Brisbane last week, Beattie said: "There is no better time to
invest in Queensland than now. With our population growth, many
companies in this nation that don't have significant [strategies in
place] like Queensland are not going to grow."

In March 2004, Beattie was the first serving Queensland premier to visit
Israel where he examined the possibility of establishing joint
Queensland-Israel collaboration in the biosciences and water sectors.

Simon Every, senior policy adviser to Senator Joe Ludwig, Federal
Labor's shadow attorney-general, told the function: "Under Peter
Beattie's leadership Queensland has transformed, such that for the first
time there is a bit of gravitas behind the sheer economics of the
state's development.

"Peter Beattie knows the lesson that countries like Israel give -
investment, innovation, hard work and strong leadership are the recipe
to so-called overnight success."

Every recently returned from a young political leader's study tour in
Israel and said foreign investment and philanthropy by the Jewish
Diaspora as well as a direction of investment by Israel into technology,
innovation and people has contributed to Israel's economic growth.

"There is real opportunity and genuine synergies to be exploited by
Australian business in terms of both supplying Israeli demand but also
in the take up, adaptation and refinement of Israeli ingenuity for the
Australian marketplace," he said.

AICC, which was founded in 1989, has facilitated regular trade between
Australia and Israel, and regularly organizes delegations to Israel led
by senior Australian politicians and business leaders.

According to the AICC, bilateral trade between Australia and Israel has
jumped from $10 million in 1970 to more than $800 million today. More
than 50 Israeli companies are active in Australia.
